Fall is HERE!

FALL IS HERE!  Cooler weather is here and with it the time to look toward next year!  The Church Year begins on the first Sunday in Advent (November 30).  Hopefully you are well into planning for Advent and Christmas.  The Resource Center has Derek Maul's new book In My Heart I Carry A Star - a wonderful read for personal devotional time as we await the birth of the savior who unites us all.  Waiting for a Savior is this year's Advent Calendar from Presbyterians Today and is available from Presbyterian Distribution Service.  Discounts are offered when you order 10 or more.

Volunteers Needed!  The Resource Center is seeking volunteers to help with on-going projects.  If you have time you can give - weekly or monthly, we have a place for you.  Your rewards include lots of appreciation, a fun environment and free coffee!  We can also use Youth who may need service hours!

It's not too early to begin thinking about next summer!  The 2009 Vacation Bible School materials will be arriving soon in the Resource Center - Discovery Canyon.  The mission project will support the Menaul School, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  It is one of our racial-ethnic schools for students in 6th-12th grade.  It offers an academically challenging curriculum in a safe, diverse and faith-based environment.  We help support this school annually through the Christmas Joy Offering.  Contact the Resource Center to learn more about VBS options.

Your Resource Center also has several magazine subscriptions  - Presbyterians Today, Presbyterian Outlook, Christianity Today, and Leadership are all available for your reading pleasure. The lastest Leadership has articles on mission -becoming missional, how some traditional churches made the transition to missional;  an article by John Ortberg on "Holding Out Hope - the secret of an enduring and effective ministry," and more.  Remember we have a nice quiet area you can enjoy, as well as wireless internet access.  If you want time to work with little interruption, please come enjoy our Center!

2009 is also the 500th anniversary of the birth of John Calvin.  Watch for ideas and resources for marking this event - including a new documentary film from Witherspoon Press.
