First Presbyterian Church will host the 2018 International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Service on Sunday, May20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. We will join organizations around the world to remember the friends and family lost and raise awareness about HIV. This year’s theme is “Reflecting on our Past, Preparing for our Future!”

When the AIDS Candlelight Memorial was first held in 1983, no one could have predicted the scale and impact of the global HIV epidemic that is now well into its third decade. The Memorial calls on us to share stories of challenge, perseverance, and triumph. It calls on us to educate the current and next generations about what the AIDS movement has achieved over the last three decades. The Memorial asks for everyone to work together, now more than ever, to sustain, strengthen and revitalize the range of human rights, including quality prevention, treatment and care services for all.

Unique to the Tampa Bay area service are the AIDS Memorial Bells. At the end of the service, handbells are tolled as a solemn reminder of the years this epidemic has taken the lives of men, women and children all around the world. There is a need of 35 people to toll the bells. If you would be interested in being a “toller”, please contact Stephen Allen at the church office (frontoffice@fpcdunedin.org or 727-733- 2318).
